A Belize specialist that plans by boat and by season.

A still, green river between banks of dense forest, seen past the railings of a bridge.

Our story

Caye Coast: Belize, by boat and by season.

Caye, said “key”, is what Belizeans call the low islands that run inside the reef. We took the name because the coast they make is where most of our trips begin, and where most of them end. Belize is a small country with a great deal of water. There are more than a hundred cayes inside the longest stretch of the Mesoamerican reef, three atolls beyond it, and rivers that still serve as roads. Choosing between them well is most of the trip.

So we plan by boat and by season. We tell you which caye is quiet in February and which atoll is worth the long crossing. We tell you when the whale sharks come to Gladden Spit, and whether a September trip is brave or simply cheaper. Inland, we pick a lodge on the Macal or Mopan where the river is the morning's entertainment. Then the road down the Hummingbird Highway to a coast where Kriol is spoken in the market and Garifuna drums set the evening's pace in Hopkins.

Every trip is private and built from scratch by a specialist who answers your questions plainly, including the awkward ones about weather, safety and sandflies. We work with licensed Belizean guides and boat captains. We don't publish prices. We ask how you like to travel, then find you the right water.
