Whale sharks at Gladden Spit

In spring, around the full moon, whale sharks come to feed off Placencia. It's a chance, never a promise.

About it

Gladden Spit is a bend in the reef off Placencia where cubera and dog snapper gather to spawn in spring. Whale sharks come to feed on the spawn, usually in the days just before and after the full moon. The water is open and deep, so this is a blue-water swim or dive rather than a reef snorkel.

We plan two or three possible days around the moon and keep the rest of the week flexible. If the sharks don't show, the boat goes on to the southern cayes and the day is still a good one.
